We don’t organise retreats ourselves at Waihōanga, but several groups organise retreats that have an open registration. Here are some that are coming up – we’ll keep updating this as we receive more bookings. Please contact the organisers directly for more details… and we look forward to seeing you here soon!
Eco Dye Retreat with Birgit Moffatt
21 – 23 February 2020
This Eco Dye Retreat is a fantastic opportunity to explore the art of eco dyeing in the beautiful and relaxed setting of Waihōanga River Lodge.
Over the weekend we will go for walks through native bush to collect leaves for our dye bundles. You will learn how to prepare and mordant fabrics for eco dyeing, including cottons and linens. We will use a variety of fabrics and mordants to explore the potential and possibilities of colour released from leaves. Down by the river, we will open our bundles to reveal the magic of eco dyeing and rinse our fabrics in the fresh water.
The retreat is suitable for beginners and for those more experienced who want to further explore the use of mordants on a variety of fabrics.
The Waihōanga River Lodge and Retreat is the ideal place to explore the potential of natural dyes, get creative, and reconnect with nature in a relaxed and friendly environment. There will be time to relax in the gardens or go for a dip in the river.
This retreat is catered with delicious vegetarian food, using fresh and local produce.
